A man identified as Aniekan James has been arrested by the Nigerian police for killing his 35-year-old son, Odudu James.

According to the police, Aniekan killed Odudu, identified as his only son on June 16, 2023 and was arrested on the same day by operatives of the Command attached to Ukanafun Division.

Aniekan was described as a ‘habitual murderer’, having reportedly killed in the past in Lagos and Abia states.

Olatoye Durosinmi, the Akwa Ibom State Police Commissioner, Olatoye Durosinmi, disclosed this to journalists on Monday when Aniekan was paraded along with 268 other suspects arrested for various offences across the state.

Durosinmi said, “On June 16, 2023, one Aniekan James of Ikot Ndot village in Ukanafun LGA was arrested by the Ukanafun division for shooting his 35-year-old only son, Odudu James, who had been having a war of words with him.

"The suspect is alleged to be a habitual murderer who has committed murders in Lagos and Aba states.”

Also paraded was Edu Ime, who was suspected to be a ritualist. Ime was arrested by operatives of the Quick Response Squad of the command with a human skull.

“On 15/05/2023 around 8.05pm, one Edu Udeme Ime of Mbak Etoi village, Uyo, was arrested at Urua Ekpa Junction by the command’s Quick Response Squad for being in possession of a human skull. The suspect could not give a reasonable explanation as to why he was in possession of a human skull,” he said.

Other suspects paraded include the suspected kidnapper of the vice-chancellor of a private university, who was abducted on his way home by his former domestic worker.

He said the N2 million left of the ransom collected and the Toyota Corolla used for the operation, were also recovered.

According to the police commissioner, the VC has been reunited with his family.

“On April 14, 2023, around 10.30 am, the vice-chancellor of a private University in the state was kidnapped on his way home.

“Two days later, being the 16th, in a prompt and discreet investigation, operatives of the anti-kidnap squad of the command arrested one Prince Thursday Okon, a former domestic worker of the VC. He was sacked because of his criminal tendencies; he then masterminded the kidnap.
