Twitter Users Trend #RIPTwitter Over Elon Musk’s New Reading Limits Policy

Twitter users have been ‘trending’ #RIPTwitter on the microblogging site to express their displeasure at the newly introduced policy by Elon Musk which limits the number of posts users can read daily.

 

Musk, who is the owner of the microblogging platform said the step was taken to address extreme levels of data scraping and system manipulation.

 

In his tweet on Saturday, Musk said verified accounts were temporarily limited to reading 6,000 posts a day, while unverified accounts and new unverified accounts were limited to reading 600 posts a day and 300 posts a day respectively.

 

This announcement generated a lot of backlash and reactions from users who condemned the manner in which Musk has been handling Twitter affairs since taking over from the past owner.

 

One of these reactions is a trend of the hashtag #RIPTwitter, which symbolises that the users advocating for the complete shutdown of a platform that was once an avenue of freedom of speech online.

 

A user, MercyTheProphet could not hide her disappointment at how the platform had changed under Musk.

 

She said, “At first, I thought Elon would've improved twitter but instead, he made it much worse. #RIPTwitter #RateLimitExceeded #Twitterdown #TwitterLimits.”

 

“#IsItOk That Elon Musk is making Twitter "a better place" by completely destroying it. #RIPTwitter,” another user, David Attwood added.

Graham O'hare also narrated how she was kicked out of the platform after spending barely 20 minutes on the site.

She said, “I'd say I looked through Twitter this morning for maybe 20 minutes max and my limit is exceeded. Wtf @elonmusk  #RIPTwitter what a load of bollocks.”

Another user, @Aryan Mayya said, “Me trying to craft Twitter threads all day long, and then Twitter rate limits. #TwitterDown #TwitterLimits #RIPTwitter.”

“I think it's becoming easier for me to want to go ghost on all social media platforms. Twitter isn't fun anymore, f*** Facebook, not going back to Instagram; like, I just want a dumb little space for me and my friends to go feral. Why is this so hard? #RIPTwitter,” another user @homosexsicle added.
