It also said it had made progress in its investigation into the corruption allegations against the former governor.

The Kano Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission says it has engaged the services of forensic experts to study video clips showing the immediate former governor of the state, Abdullahi Ganduje, receiving bales of dollars meant as kickbacks.

It also said it had made progress in its investigation into the corruption allegations against the former governor.

Muhuyi Rimingado, chairman of the anti-corruption body told journalists on Tuesday had engaged the services of forensic experts who would study the footage.

In 2018, Daily Nigerian published a series of videos exposing the then-Kano governor collecting kickbacks from contractors, triggering public criticism and calls for further investigations into the exposé.

Ganduje has since been dubbed “Gandollar”, a social media jibe coined from the meshing of his last name and dollar.

He however denied collecting any kickbacks, claiming the videos were doctored.

Rimingado on Tuesday said the agency would get to the bottom of the issue while dismissing claims that the anti-corruption body lacks the power to investigate the matter.

In June, SaharaReporters reported that the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission had reopened an investigation into the bribery allegation against Ganduje.

The Kano anti-commission boss was suspended from office by Ganduje but was reinstated by the National Industrial Court in May 2023.
