EU Mission’s Report On Nigeria’s 2023 General Elections Belongs In Dustbin, Says Fani-Kayode
July 5, 2023

Former aviation minister, Femi Fani-Kayode has slammed the EU Mission over its report on the 2023 general elections, describing it as "the biggest and best example of fake news".

Fani-Kayode, who was the Director of Special Media Projects, Special Media Operations and New Media of the Tinubu/Shettima Presidential Campaign Council, on Tuesday, described the report as an "infantile election monitors report".

On Wednesday, he took to his Twitter handle to condemn the EU report.

He said the EU-EOM report belongs in the dustbin, regretting that Tinubu/Shettima Presidential Campaign Council, didn't say anything during the campaign about the antics of the opposition, their foreign collaborators and their friends.

He wrote: "The EU report on the 2023 presidential election in Nigeria is itself the biggest and best example of fake news and it belongs in the dustbin.

" There is not one thing we said during the campaign about the antics of the opposition, their foreign collaborators, their friends and backers in identifiable sections of the Nigerian and international media and their subterranean and covert co-conspirators in the then corridors of powers that is not true.

We have not forgotten what they subjected us to, what they did to us and the role each and every one of them played.”

The EU Mission had in its report titled: "European Union Election Observation Mission NIGERIA 2023 Final Report" identified Fani-Kayode, Festus Keyamo amongst others as ‘fake news purveyors'.

EU accused Keyamo and Fani-Kayode of misleading Nigerians by spreading fake news during the 2023 general elections

The report partly read: “There was an increased incidence of misleading information in the days leading up to and during the election. In many cases, false reports were spread by well-known personalities associated with political parties.

“On February 12, Festus Keyamo from APC promoted information published by a suspicious website, accusing Peter Obi of bribery. The story quickly became viral and was in a few hours debunked.

“Femi Fani-Kayode, a former minister of aviation and an APC party member, made a claim on February 11, 2023, that the PDP presidential candidate Abubakar had a secret meeting with serving military generals in Abuja.

“He accused Atiku of wanting to incite chaos, provoke a coup d’état, and establish a new and unconstitutional order. Kayode posted this claim across multiple social media platforms, and it garnered 281.2k total impressions. The next day, he posted that the Army denied reports about a meeting between its officers and Atiku.”

However, Fani-Kayode in an earlier reaction to the report asked the EU and its member states to tender an unreserved apology for the unspeakable atrocities that they committed against the people of Africa over the last 200 years.

He had written: "Before they assail and afflict us with their self-serving, self-seeking, hypocritical, nauseating, infantile, irritating and inconsequential “election monitors report”, the EU and its member states should tender an unreserved apology for the unspeakable atrocities that they committed against the people of Africa over the last 200 years.

"In case they have forgotten permit me to remind them of just a few. The Germans committed genocide in Namibia. The Belgians committed genocide in Congo. The French commited genocide in Algeria.

"The Dutch committed genocide in South Africa. The Spanish committed genocide in Equatorial Guinea and Morocco. The Portuguese committed genocide in Angola and Mozambique. The British (though no longer a member of the EU) committed genocide in Kenya and South Africa.

"Hundreds of millions of Africans were subjected to ethnic cleansing, mass murder, slavery and total subjugation by the Europeans in the 19th and 20th century.

"When a European accuses we Africans of being brutal and barbaric, of committing all manner of mindless atrocities against one another and of being a bunch of fraudulent and dishonest election-riggers they forget to mention the fact that, if true, we must have learnt such callousness, wickedness, barbarity and roguish traits from them. History proves that.

"Their report deserves to be in one place and one place alone: the bottom of a dustbin!"
