Governor Alex Otti of Abia State on Thursday announced that the state will transition to a Treasury Single Account (TSA) system starting from September 1, 2023 to engender transparency and accountability in the financial management of the state.

Otti, who took to his official Twitter handle @alexottifr on Thursday to announce the new introduction of the TSA, said the move will centralise all state revenue and payments.

Titled: “Transition to a Treasury Single Account", the governor said the introduction had been discussed and agreed upon during town-hall meeting with various stakeholders.

He wrote, "By September 1, 2023, Abia State will transition to a Treasury Single Account (TSA) system. This move will centralize all state revenue and payments, enhancing transparency and efficiency. During a recent town-hall meeting with the state’s transport unions and market leaders, I reiterated the benefits of our new digital tax system.

“This system will fight fraud, streamline tax payments, empower our citizens, generate employment and attract investors. I urge all stakeholders to embrace this shift, knowing it is in the best interest of Abia State and its people.”

Meanwhile, Nigerian tweeps have applauded the decision, which they described as a way to begin as it would allow for transparency and engender accountability in the system.
For a Twitter user, with account @myraandrews1, she congratulated the governor for the initiative.
She wrote: "Congrats Sir on successfully transitioning to the Treasury Single Account (TSA) system!
"This move will enhance transparency, accountability, & efficiency in financial management. Kudos to the govt for taking this significant step towards better governance & fiscal responsibility."

For @Ninasteve007, he begged the governor not to subject the Abians to more hardship with the federal government proposed direct taxation on them.
He wrote: "Well done sir. Whatever you're doing, please don't subject Abians especially traders and artisans to the new FG proposed direct taxation on them.
"They are STRICTLY under the state and LG purview. You know where Abians are coming from.
"All governors should rise against it."
