Troops Kill 5 Terrorists Trying To Enter Nigeria From Cameroon

The troop made this known in a press briefing released on Thursday by Brig. Gen. Abdullahi Haruna Ibrahim, for the Director of Defence Media Operations, detailing the troops' operations in tackling the terrorist groups in the six geopolitical zones in the country.

A joint military task force has neutralised at least five members of Boko Haram and the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) while trying to enter Nigeria from Cameroon.

The troop made this known in a press briefing released on Thursday by Brig. Gen. Abdullahi Haruna Ibrahim, for the Director of Defence Media Operations, detailing the troops' operations in tackling the terrorist groups in the six geopolitical zones in the country.

According to the statement, the terrorists were attacked after the troops received an intelligence report on their movement.

The statement reads in part, “22 June 2023, following intelligence report on terrorists crossing from Cameroon to Nigeria, troops laid ambush along Bula Yobe-Darel Jamel in Bama Local Government Area of Borno State and made contact with the terrorists.

“Following a fire fight, troops neutralized 5 Boko Haram Terrorists/Islamic State of West Africa Province terrorists and recovered 1 bag each of flour and detergent.

“Furthermore, between 15 and 20 June 2023, troops arrested 10 Boko Haram Terrorists/Islamic State of West Africa Province terrorists collaborators and suppliers at different locations within the general area of operations and recovered some logistic supplies meant for the terrorists include mosquito nets, mosquito coils, 2 bags of sugar and the sum of Two Hundred and Forty Six Thousand Two Hundred and Thirty Five Naira (N246,235.00) only.”

The statement added the troops of Operation Hadin Kai in the Northeast region of Nigeria had intensified operations against terrorists.

The statement further reads, “Between 17 and 18 June 2023, troops and hybrid forces conducted fighting patrols in Borno State, clearing terrorist enclaves in various areas. They neutralized five terrorists, captured three, and recovered valuable items like AK47 rifles, Dane guns, and weapons.

“On 18 June, they arrested two gun runners at Njimtilo checkpoint and recovered 500 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo. On 4 July, they conducted an ambush operation at Mandara mountain, neutralizing a notorious Boko Haram commander and capturing an AK47 rifle. A total of 967 terrorists surrendered to troops.”
