Veteran Nollywood actress, Cynthia Okereke has died at the age of 63.

The cause of her death is yet to be confirmed.

The late actress’s colleague, Joseph Okechukwu announced the sad news on social media on Wednesday.

According to the filmmaker, he was about to pay for Cynthia Okereke’s flight ticket to come to United States but sadly, she died on Tuesday night.

Joseph wrote: “REST IN PEACE, Nwanyi oma. I’m shattered beyond words. The fact that I was about to pay for your flight ticket to come finish what we started only to here you went to be with Lord just last night is one of the toughest things I’ve ever had to deal with in recent times.

“I pray I’m able to recover from this shock. Life is really just a mist. One minute you have it, the next you don’t.

“For the more than 20 years that I’ve known you, you’ve been such an amazing, decent and lovely soul to be around. I never imagined you’d exit so unceremoniously. Words fail me.

“Sleep on, Cynthia. May your gentle soul rest on till we meet again in glory.”

Last year, the actress was kidnapped in Enugu alongside fellow actor Clemson Cornel. They were later released unhurt by the kidnappers some days later.

Okereke was born on April 20, 1960, in Enugu, southeast Nigeria.

She joined the Nigerian movie industry in 1998 and acted in her first Nollywood movie “King Jaja of Opobo”.

In 2003, she starred in ‘Osuofia in London’ alongside Nkem Owoh.

It earned her a nomination for Best Supporting Actress in Nigeria at the Africa Movie Academy Awards.

She has reportedly acted in more than 180 Nollywood movies.

In 2013, Okereke was honoured as the AGN Movie Ambassador by the Actors Guild of Nigeria.
