Buhari To Tinubu - Salvation Or Damnation? By Achike Chude

Buhari To Tinubu - Salvation Or Damnation? By Achike Chude
July 20, 2023

Nigerians were eager to see the back of him - the man from Daura, the acclaimed army general who became a chicken in war, the lion who became a mouse. Someone once suggested that it might not be wrong to say that he had a penchant for hiding under the bed at Aso Rock whenever he heard that Boko Haram and other pernicious forces were on the rampage.

Perhaps the bed was bullet proofed for fear that if the damned terrorists broke through the impregnable Aso security he could be kept safe for a time.

But Aso Rock be damned. He preferred the greater security of flying out of the country in the aftermath of a great tragedic attack on the country in which dozens or hundreds died.

It was 'good riddance to bad rubbish' as he and his three propaganda jesters, Laurel and Hardy (Femi Adeshina and Garba Shehu), as well as Nigeria's Joseph Goebbels (Lai Mohammed), and their corterie of unpatriotic government officials at all levels whose stock in trade was to undermine the system they were meant to protect and uphold have departed the stage.

But they succeeded handsomely in their dastardliness, as the eight years paradise promised us became eight years of hellish nightmare. The devil could not have asked for a better, more qualified person than the man who left Aso Rock Villa about two months ago - the general who became a mouse.

But he is gone. Alleluia!

And in his place has come another, with the promise of another paradise, but this time, different from the other paradise previously promised.

He has been accused of entering the house through the backdoor and has a lingering question mark over his status as president.

He says that he is different and people are hoping that he truly is. Their hope lies in him being really different so that he can positively impact on the life of Nigerians who have suffered so much.

But how much more different can he be when the vultures - those accursed seekers of carrion - have begun to circle around him? Former governors - the class of 99 -2007 (never heard of them before now, but they are as crude and as vile as they come), paid him a visit. They did not mean well for their states and the country when they were governors and they do not mean well now, for the simple reason that the leopard does not change its spots.

The ever boastful and fire spitting (Asari Dokubo), came visiting the seat of power and told the president, who is the commander-in-chief of the armed forces about how useless his military is and how he and his boys have been the people protecting and saving Nigeria. We are told that he even did a video recently, armed with the usual AK 47 and displaying a general purpose machine gun (GPMC).

The DSS does not like people with illegal fire arms. It is why they have charged Emefiele with possessing a shakabula (dane gun - in comparison to what Asari displayed). But Nigerians are not amused that the DSS could only charge Emefiele with possession of a gun and bullets after all the atrocities the government says he commited. After all, people like the Fulani herdsmen have carried guns openly for years without hindrance. They say that they are afraid of Emefiele because of the information he has that could be the undoing of many.

But what of Asari Dokubo with his AK 47 and GPMC and his threats against some Nigerians? Or, are they also afraid of him? People say that it is not fear of Asari. That is because of the long held maxim that the friend of your friend is your friend. Asari visits Oga. They pose together, smiling. Therefore Oga and Asari Dokubo are friends. Who born them to move against Oga's friend?

Olisa Metuh, former PDP spokesman joined the train of sojourners to the seat of power. He too was accused of corruption at a time. But you know our courts. Fela once said that they can do magic. I am not sure that they did magic for Metuh. But magic was done in his life. He is no longer in a wheelchair. No one knows what happened to his famous wheelchair. But Alleluia! He rose without the miraculous touch.

Some of those, especially politicians who have visited the president have been accused of being seedy looking - people of unworthy, unwholesome, unsavoury, and questionable characters. We need to warn the president in case he does not know - that bad characters spoil the good. He needs to keep away from them to avoid being polluted. But someone had the temerity to say that he enjoys the company of the unjust and unwhole. What impudence!

But all of these are not as important as the hunger ravaging the Nigerian people - all of them consequence of Oga's economic policies and his desire to please the IMF and World Bank. He says that Nigerians should give him time. But there is no time to give because many are already dying of hunger, malnutrition, diseases and starvation. He has promised to make things better, but people don't live on promises but on concrete manifestations of those promises. Boys are not smiling and girls are not smiling. The hailstones and coals of fire are falling too early in his administration. It is potentially dangerous.

God forbid that Nigerians begin to look at the government of the general from Daura who became a mouse, with nostalgia.

He was the stuff that nightmares are made from.
