Fierce-looking armed operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) on Sunday barred journalists from covering the Adamawa State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal.

The DSS personnel, supported by policemen, blocked the entrance into the courtroom and turned journalists away.

SaharaReporters gathered that the suspended Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Hudu Yunusa-Ari was in the court to testify in support of the petition of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed Binani.

Binani had listed the controversial REC, Yunusa-Ari as her star witness in the suit she instituted at the tribunal seeking to nullify the election of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri.

Journalists who have been attending the tribunal sitting were however surprised when security operatives prevented them from covering the proceedings as Yunusa-Ari gave his testimony.

The journalists who were chased away from the courtroom had to wait outside for the outcome of the day's sitting.

During the April 15, 2023 governorship supplementary election, Yunusa-Ari declared the APC candidate, Binani as the winner of the election before the conclusion of the collation of results.
