The African Action Congress (AAC), Oyo State chapter, has lambasted the Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde, for failing to tackle the alarming flooding situation in parts of the state.
The party in a release by Kayode Babayomi, the state chairman, noted that after four years of Makinde’s administration, the state drainage system had been left unattended to.
“The governor has however been boasting about, commissioning cosmetic projects around the state,” the party said.
“Oyo State people deserve better as they have never benefitted from the present Makinde administration in any real sense; if Oyo State is a water-locked state like Lagos, floods would have dislodged many residents just like the state of excellence.
“Just like his Lagos comrade, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, poor drainage system is their legacy and it makes one wonder what type of swamp they want to turn their states to.
“Many areas in the state capital of Ibadan like Akinyele LG, and Aroro Makinde (named after the governor) are currently flooded. Governance is beyond going around taking pictures for social media. It is about effective and proper planning and development of the state.
“Many parts of the state need proper drainage attention from the government and we call on the Seyi Makinde-led administration to as a matter of urgency own up to their responsibility or advise the people to start taking swimming classes.
“We call on the good people of Oyo State to stop voting for people who cannot shield them from disasters; AAC party is the only alternative to bad governance in Oyo and Nigeria at large. The people should continue to gather and mobilise for the state freedom from the Agodi emperor.”
