The Nigeria Police Force, Bauchi State Command has confirmed the killing of seven persons by gunmen in fresh attacks by suspected terrorists in parts of the state.

The gunmen reportedly raided the villages of Gara and Gamji in Burra District of Ningi Local Government Area of the State on Tuesday night at about 9pm and killed no fewer than seven persons.

The corpses of the victims were buried on Wednesday morning.

Ningi Local Government Area has reportedly been vulnerable to gunmen and terrorists attacks in recent times due to its proximity to Lame-Burra Forest Reserve which is said to be a hideout for kidnappers.

Confirming the incident, the Bauchi State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ahmed Wakili, described the killing as “unprovoked and mindless”.

Wakili said, “We received a distress call that some bandits had attacked Kada and Gamji villages under Burra district of Ningi LGA. They came in large numbers, shooting sporadically; as a result, seven people were killed.”

The police spokesperson however said the operatives of the command, with support from the Nigerian military, engaged the bandits and neutralised three of them in the process, adding that others scampered in disarray into the nearby bush with possible gunshot wounds.

The gunmen were also said to have killed one volunteer security guard and injured one soldier in Gamji Village during a gun duel with the soldiers.
