An emerging criminal gang suspected to be 'Shila Boys' on Saturday, stabbed one Abdulkadir Umar to death and stole his cell phone in Adamawa State, Northeast Nigeria.

Wielding light weapons, Shila Boys operate mostly in the early hours to rob people of cell phones, bags, jewellery, among other items.

They often target travellers or those on early morning exercise along solitary streets.

The deadly group terrorises Yola, the capital of Adamawa State and other cities, often killing or inflicting injuries on their victims.

The group which was decimated during the early days of Governor Ahamadu Umaru Fintiri may have bounced back deadlier as there have been reports of armed people breaking into houses at will.

Confirming the killing of the 37-year-old Umar to SaharaReporters, the spokesperson for the state police command, Suleiman Nguroje, said, "The deadly criminals broke into his house in the early hours of Saturday, stabbed him multiple times and carted away valuables, including cell phones.

"We got the distress call at about the time the hoodlums had left the scene. Unfortunately, before the victim could reach the hospital, he passed away.

"Right now, we're on the trail of the miscreants as directed by the commissioner of police, Afolabi Babatola; and by the grace of God, they will be made to face the wrath of the law."
