This is coming after the management of the school released two separate circulars obtained by Sahara Reporters where they students were mandated to pay N5,000 per day for the late registration fees and payment of N2000 as a levy for the Computer Based Tests (CBT) fees, in a bid to be “eligible for second semester examinations.”

Students of Abraham Adesanya polytechnic (AAPOLY), Ijebu Igbo, Ogun State, have bemoaned the new fees imposed on them by the school management.

One of the circular read, “towards the forthcoming 2022/2023 second semester examination scheduled to hold between Monday 21st and Friday, 1st September 2023; the management has resolved that:
“1. Deadline for payment of school fees is Sunday 20th august 2023 (11:59p.m). Therefore, any payment made from 12:00a.m on Monday 21st August, 2023 will attract five thousand naira (N5,000) penalty fee per day. However, the portal remains opened till further notice.

“Students are hereby enjoined to make use of this golden opportunity to pay up their 30% balance of school fees on or before the expiration of the deadline as stated above. Students are expected to start processing their examination clearance certificate without further delay

“The management will not entertain any plea for extension of payment deadline from students, parents or guardians.

“Students are to present only coloured print-out of examination clearance certificate (pass) examination venue.”

The second circular which imposed N2,000 CBT levy on the students reads: “This is to inform the entire students that the polytechnic management has approved the payment of two thousand naira only (#2000:00) only as Computer Based Test (CBT) fee during the second semester examination.

“In view of the above, the Computer Based Test fee should be paid into the account details below: ACCOUNTNAME: ABRAHAM ADESANYA POLYTECHNIC. ACCOUNT NUMBER: 4030010353. BANK NAME: POLARIS BANK”

Reacting to this, a student of the polytechnic described the fees as irrelevant, saying the students were not paying such before this time.

She said, “This CBT due is unnecessary, I have not paid 30% of my school fees and I still have to look for money to pay for CBT. It is unfair and inconsiderate,” the student of Science Laboratory Technology said.
Another student of Accounting told SaharaReporters that he was also not pleased with the new development. When asked about his views, he said: “the CBT due is purely extortion. The computers are functional, why must they enforce us to pay for exams they want us to write using CBT? This extortion is too much and we can't afford it.”

Reacting to the memo, another student shared that “the CBT money is purely extortion because the computers are functional”. He asked: “why must they force us to pay for exams they want us to write using CBT? This extortion is too much and we can't afford it.”

SaharaReporters had reported in July 2021 how students of Abraham Adesanya polytechnic (AAPOLY), accused the management of mandating new students to pay N7, 500 for matriculation gown, a N2,500 increment from what was paid last year.
In 2017, students paid N3,500; it was later increased to N5,000 in 2018 and then increased to N7,500 in 2021.
