Nigerian Army Guarantees Safety Of Corps Members In Borno Amid Boko Haram Insurgency

This was stated in a press statement released by the Force via its verified page on X (formerly Twitter), adding that the Theatre Commander (TC) Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), Major General GU Chibuisi 24 August 2023 visited the National Youth Service Corps Temporary Orientation Camp Borno State situated at Mustapha Umar El-Kanemi Arabic College, Maiduguri, Borno State. 

The Nigerian Army has guaranteed the safety of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members in Borno State. 

This was stated in a press statement released by the Force via its verified page on X (formerly Twitter), adding that the Theatre Commander (TC) Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), Major General GU Chibuisi 24 August 2023 visited the National Youth Service Corps Temporary Orientation Camp Borno State situated at Mustapha Umar El-Kanemi Arabic College, Maiduguri, Borno State. 

The TC was met by the Scheme's State Coordinator, Comrade Mohammed Adamu Jiya, and Camp Commandant Major H Abdullahi. Brigadier General TM Opurum, Commander 7 Division Garrison, then briefed Major General Chibuisi on the Camp's security deployment. 

Following the brief, the TC made observations and issued directives to maintain the camp's fortification to provide a smooth orientation training. Furthermore, the TC took advantage of the chance to interact with Batch B Stream 2 corps members stationed in the state. 

The TC charged corps members to maintain a high level of discipline, patriotism, and respect for constituted authority. 

He also urged them to remain calm as he assured them of appropriate protection and assistance to ensure that they enjoyed their service year in Borno State.

The NYSC reopened the orientation camp in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, for the first time in 13 years after the exercise was suspended in 2011 due to Boko Haram insurgency.

Swearing in Batch ‘B’ Stream 2 corps members at a temporal orientation camp in the state capital, NYSC State Coordinator, Mohammed Adamu, credited Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, for facilitating the return of the orientation course to the state.

The corps members are camped at the Arabic Teachers College which is serving as a temporary orientation camp amidst tight security by the military, police, civil defence and civilian joint task force.
