In his letter, the lawyer expressed his dissatisfaction with the current socioeconomic challenges in the country.
A Nigerian legal practitioner, Olatunji O. Abayomi has told President Bola Tinubu’s government to work diligently to ensure the country is working again.
Mr Abayomi mentioned this in an open letter he directed to all political leaders in the country, explaining how previous administrations had dashed the hope of Nigerians and failed to deliver their political promises to the masses.
In his letter, the lawyer expressed his dissatisfaction with the current socioeconomic challenges in the country.
He said, “The organic strength of any nation rests on just two pivots. The first is the people from which everything emerges. The second is the Leadership on which every hope depends.
“The present government to which you are now a minister or leader must at this point face the two sectors with sober challenge, that is, if the government wants to succeed.
“Now depending on leaders of government, Nigeria has a new chance for her evolution with change matra in the air. This is what I believe President Bola Ahmed Tinubu describes as renewed hope but what I really prefer to call a new hope.
“Before we proceed on the hope journey, however, it seems proper to assess where we are as a Nation so as to be able to truly face the challenge of this incredibly debilitating period.
“If today you ask Nigerians their view about this nation, they will tell you that this Nation was set back by her past governments and leaders who blighted the great chances it had to fly like eagle.”
Abayomi noted that the “lack of faith in government and Nation arose from the embarrassing failures and betrayals of the past, which themselves flowed from the uncontrolled corrupt appetite of leaders of government”.
He said, “Today the people of Nigeria are confronted with a revolution of rising frustration, weakened faith and shattered expectation. How can a nation so blessed with human and material endowment be so low rated in the index of human and material development?
“No one can doubt that there have been so many great chances to lift this Nation up all of which have been largely wasted by corrupt pitiless leadership.
“Now, if we have a nation where the Accountant-General of the Federation became the Chief Thief of the Federation or where the head of the Pension Commission prefers to embezzle the funds of retirees, where the Governor of the Central Bank became utterly arrogant in abusing financial regulations including running for President while still comfortably sitting in his executive chair.
“If we have a nation where the Head of the Financial Crime's Commission is apparently guilty before trial, where the debt foisted on the nation for little visible cause is many times in excess of the Nation's population.
“If we have a nation where Governors become autocrats in a democracy or where legislators and permanent secretaries own more than 50 exclusive houses all over the world through embezzlement of public funds on the face of hungry children and wretched labour force.
“If we have a nation where motherhood and fatherhood have been derailed by poverty, where youths are made so desperate because of the terrifying conditions of life such that they prefer death on the seas or begging in the plazas of other nations.
“If we have a nation where youths prefer to turn themselves to offerings for slave labour in foreign countries, where the best of our children are giving up on national progress.
“If we have a nation where individual desire is stronger than institutional integrity, a nation where leaders are outlaws. You must know that any further leadership betrayal or indifference to the plight of Nigerians is a dangerous grievous crime against citizens.”
He said Nigerians are not only tired by “exhausted by leadership failures in this land”.
“So, turn your eyes and your heart away from the people’s money and face the serious business of diligent and honest service.
“Avoid stealing public money, avoid corruption that has typified public life in Nigeria. Be different, be unique, after all everything belongs to the world,” he said.
He continued, “Politics has been used to transform other lands. Make it work for Nigeria. Make a difference during the time of Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“Never be afraid to stand right and stand firm against any interest howsoever on any issue. Nations are built by courageous, persevering leaders, not cowards or self-possessed or pre-occupied leaders.
“As a worker from the beginning in the enterprise for a better Nigeria Nation, I will continue to wish you well but solely on the condition of support when the government does well and condemnation when it errs.”
