September 6, 2023

Mrs. Ajanlekeko is a victim of Oworonshoki demolition and a prominent protester against the demolition by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration.

The traditional ruler of Oworonshoki community in the Kosofe Local Government Area of Lagos State, Oba Babatunde Saliu, has been accused of abducting one Mrs Ajanlekoko.

Mrs. Ajanlekeko is a victim of Oworonshoki demolition and a prominent protester against the demolition by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration.

A human rights and pro-democracy group, Take It Back Movement (TIB), which made the allegation on Tuesday in a statement on its X, formerly known as Twitter, said Mrs Ajanlekoko was being held captive in the monarch’s palace, and that there were concerns that she might be undergoing torture.

The TIB said, “According to the latest information we have received, Mrs. Ajanlekoko, one of the prominent figures in the protest against demolitions in Oworonshoki and a victim of the same demolitions, has been abducted by Oba Babatunde Saliu, the monarch of Oworonshoki.

“Our sources indicate that she is currently being held captive in the palace of the Oba, and there are concerns that she may be undergoing torture at this very moment.

“It is important to highlight the collaboration between the Oba and certain individuals in the government of Lagos state, who have joined forces to demolish low-income housing in order to construct luxurious residences for the wealthy.

“The affected community has been vocal in condemning the Oba's involvement in these demolitions over the past few weeks. The actions of the Oba are a clear manifestation of impunity and a complete disregard for the rule of law.

“Therefore, we strongly urge the immediate release of Mrs. Ajanlekoko, and we call on the law enforcement agencies, specifically @PoliceNG and @PoliceNG_CRU, to promptly apprehend Oba Babatunde Saliu on charges of kidnapping.”

When contacted, Oba Babatunde Saliu, told SaharaReporters that he was in a noisy place. He asked our reporter to call him back on Wednesday morning.
