Court Fixes Date To Hear Bail Application Of Remanded ‘Isese’ Religion Activist, Tani Olohun
September 7, 2023

The Chief Magistrate Court of Kwara State has fixed the hearing of the bail application filed by Adegbola Abdulazeez, an Isese (traditional religion) practitioner and activist, also known as Tani Olohun for September 12, 2023.

The Isese practitioner was remanded in prison last week for allegedly planning to start a war in the city by "inviting other traditional and idol worshippers to assemble in Ilorin on the 20th of August, 2023.”

SaharaReporters had reported how the two-day nationwide warning strike declared by Nigerian Labour Congress stalled the hearing of Tani Olohun’s bail application on Tuesday.

Demola Solesi, a counsel to the Isese (traditional religion) practitioner confirmed this to SaharaReporters.

According to the lawyer, his client’s bail application was slated for Tuesday but the nationwide strike embarked upon by NLC has forced judicial officers to shut down the court process.

SaharaReporters on Monday reported how an Upper Area Court in Kwara State adjourned the hearing of a preliminary objection application filed by Tani Olohun.

Personnel of the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies had also been stationed around the Chief Magistrate Court in Kwara State on Monday morning to beef up security ahead of the trial of Olohun.

Human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore had revealed how the Nigeria police arrested Tani Olohun with a fake warrant.

According to the candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) in the 2019 and 2023 presidential elections, the police also asked the state government to allow them to prosecute the activist without the involvement of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

SaharaReporters had also reported how prison authorities in Kwara State denied family members and activists access to Tani Olohun.
