The Nigerian Army has said that troops of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) have arrested one Abubakar Mato, the second suspect in the killing of Dorathy Jonathan in Southern Kaduna, Kaduna State.

SaharaReporters on Thursday reported that the Nigerian Army headquarters in a statement said that troops earlier arrested the first suspected killer of Dorathy identified as Lot Dauda, following a manhunt launched by the troops who acted on credible intelligence, and that the murder suspect had confessed to committing the crime and mentioned another accomplice.

The Army headquarters in an update on the incident said that following the arrest of Dauda who confessed to murdering Mrs Dorathy at Afana village in Zango Kataf Local Government Area of the State, troops of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) have also arrested the second murder suspect identified as Abubakar Mato mentioned in the confessional statement obtained from Dauda.

The statement further noted that the troops of OPSH also thwarted an attempt to kidnap Bishop Paul Zamani of the Anglican Diocese at Sambak Gida village in the Jaba Local Government Area of the state.

According to the statement, troops swiftly mobilised to the scene after receiving a distress call and exchanged fire with the kidnappers who fled with gunshot wounds.

“The Commander Operation Safe Haven, Major General AE Abubakar, has thanked the general public for providing credible information leading to the arrest of the suspects and foiling the kidnap attempt.

“He assured the public that the suspects would be expeditiously charged to court once investigations are concluded,” the statement said.
