Some personnel of the Nigeria Police Force in Plateau State have allegedly beaten up a man and his wife as well as detained them alongside their eight-month-old baby over their refusal to give N200 bribe in Jos.
A Nigerian user on X, formerly Twitter, Ijeoma who shared the account said the man, Kcey Sirocco Jeh and his wife were allegedly beaten by policemen attached to Bukuru police station, B Division.
Ijeoma posted photographs and a video of the victims.
She said, “A family friend was taking his 8 months old son to the hospital, and @PoliceNG in Jos stopped them on the way demanding for N200, when they refused to give the policemen. They brutalised him and his wife and took all of them to their station including the kid.”
She continued: “Look at the men of Bukuru police Station from B division that brutalised his family. The DPO forced him to tender an apology on Facebook before he could be released on bail because of N200.”
SaharaReporters could not get the reaction of the State Police Spokesman, Alfred Alabo, as his phone number was switched off when he was called on Tuesday morning.
There appears to be no end in sight to the highhandedness, brutality and extra-judicial killings of citizens by some members of the Nigeria Police Force despite calls for its reform.
On 1st of January, 2023, SaharaReporters reported how a policeman attached to the Katsina State Police Command shot dead two people.
The incident was said to have happened in Filin Kanada area of the state.
Three teenagers also sustained gunshot injuries.
“A policeman shot and killed two people, while three young boys were also injured by the policeman,” a source had said.
