Goshwe had challenged the election of Caleb Mutfwang of the Peoples Democratic Party as the governor of the state, alleging that Mutfwang was not qualified to contest at the time of the election.

The Plateau State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Jos on Friday dismissed the petition filed by Dr Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda of the All Progressives Congress.

Goshwe had challenged the election of Caleb Mutfwang of the Peoples Democratic Party as the governor of the state, alleging that Mutfwang was not qualified to contest at the time of the election.

According to his petition, Mutfwang was not validly nominated by the PDP at the time because the party had no structure.

Nigeria's electoral body, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), declared Mutfwang the winner of the March 18 governorship election in the state after polling 525,299 votes.

INEC aid Goshwe polled 481,370 votes in the election.

But in Friday’s judgment, the Tribunal dismissed the petition for lacking in merit.

The tribunal earlier dismissed the petition filed by the governorship candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party, Alfred Dabwan, also against the election of Mutfwang.

Dabwan had sought the nullification of the poll over the alleged exclusion of his party’s logo on the ballot by the electoral body.
