The police in Zamfara State, northwest Nigeria, have confirmed that some kidnapped students of the Federal University Gusau have yet to be rescued by security personnel.

This was disclosed to SaharaReporters on Sunday during a telephone conversation with Zamfara State Police Command spokesman, Yezid Abubakar.

SaharaReporters on Friday reported how some gunmen suspected to be terrorists kidnapped some students of the school.

The gunmen invaded the students’ residence at Sabon-Gida identified as Nazeer Sabon-Gida and took away some female students of the school, whose number could not be ascertained.

A few hours later, the Nigerian Army announced that it had rescued six of the students after a gun battle with the terrorists.

Giving an update on the matter, the state police command spokesman confirmed that not all of the kidnapped students were rescued by the Army.

He, however, added that the number of the remaining students in the terrorists’ den had yet to be ascertained.

Meanwhile, security operatives have been deployed since Saturday to rescue them, the police command spokesman added.

He said, “Yes (there are still some students with the terrorists). We don’t have an actual number yet. They have only rescued six of them.

“We can’t say there are many that remain because we don’t know the number that were abducted. All hands are on deck to make sure that the others are rescued, Insha Allah.”

“We don’t know the actual number but our men have been there since yesterday (Saturday), working on the rescue operation. Insha Allah, we will rescue all of them,” the police spokesperson added.
