Eight barges with about 100,000 litres of products suspected to be illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), also known as diesel, have been impounded in the Bonny Area of Rivers State.

This was disclosed by the Commander, Joint Task Force, South-South, OPDS, Real Admiral Olusegun Ferreira, while addressing journalists on Sunday.

The commander explained that the vessels containing adulterated diesel were impounded by security forces during a stop-and-search operation across several creeks.

Commodore Adedokun Siyanbade, Ferreira who was represented by OPDS Maritime Component Commander, said the seizure was part of efforts to end the theft of crude oil and criminality in the Niger Delta “as part of the directives given to OPDS by the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa”.

He said the impounded barges cumulatively had over 100,000 litres of diesel stored inside different compartments.
