Over 20 Abducted Zamfara University Students Still With Terrorists, Says Students’ Union Government

SaharaReporters on Friday reported how terrorists kidnapped some students of the school.

 

About 24 students of the Federal University Gusau, Zamfara State are still being held captive by terrorists, SaharaReporters has gathered.

 

A source in the university students' union said the union had identified not fewer than 30 students who were abducted by terrorists on Friday.

 

“We estimated that about 24 are still with the terrorists. Six have come back home but 24 are still with them (terrorists). The total of those kidnapped was 30,” the source told SaharaReporters.

 

SaharaReporters on Friday reported how terrorists kidnapped some students of the school.

 

The gunmen invaded the students’ residence at Sabon-Gida identified as Nazeer Sabon-Gida and took away some female students of the school, whose number could not be ascertained at the time.

 

 

 

A few hours later, the Nigerian Army announced that it had rescued six of the students after a gun battle with the terrorists.

 

Giving an update on the matter on Sunday, the state police command spokesman Yezid Abubakar also confirmed that not all of the kidnapped students were rescued by the Army.

 

SaharaReporters on Monday observed that trending claim on X, formerly Twitter, that a set of 13 abducted students of the university had also been rescued.

 

 

 

“I’m happy to wake up to the good news of 13 more students and 3 construction workers being rescued from Federal University Gusau. Thanks to our security agencies. May Allah protect them as they continue to do everything to #BringBackFugusGrils,” a user, Mohammed Jammal wrote.

 

 

 

Another user, Comr. Abiyos Roni said, “#BringBackFugusGirls I wake up feeling so happy that 13 other female students and 3 laborers were rescued. So far 20+ female students of Federal University Gusau was rescued by Nigerian troops. A commendable effort, my best prayer is with Nigerian troops may you rescue all the other victims and return them home safely and in good health. Ameen.”

 

 

 

However, when SaharaReporters called the state police spokesman, Abubakar on Monday morning to verify the claim that 13 more kidnapped students had been freed, he said he was not aware of it.

 

 

 

He said, “Although I am on my way to the office now, I am not aware of it,” he told SaharaReporters.

 

A counter-insurgency expert and security analyst in Lake Chad, Zagazola Makama in a post on Monday morning said seven more students had been rescued, pushing the number of rescued students to 13.

 

Makama said three workers of GUPRAN Engineering Services Ltd were also rescued by the military.
