SaharaReporters on Monday reported how Chioma was arrested by the company with the help of the Nigerian Police Force over her Facebook post on one of the food products manufactured by Erisco.

Global human rights body, Amnesty International, has demanded the immediate and unconditional release of Chioma Blessing Edoka, a customer of the Nigerian-based food product manufacturing company, Erisco Foods Limited, allegedly arrested and intimidated by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force on the orders of the company.

SaharaReporters on Monday reported how Chioma was arrested by the company with the help of the Nigerian Police Force over her Facebook post on one of the food products manufactured by Erisco.

SaharaReporters also reported that Babatunde Irukera, Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) had confirmed the arrest of Chioma and said that her case has been transferred to Force Headquarters, Abuja, and that Erisco Foods had been summoned by his agency.

Reacting to the incident, Amnesty International on Tuesday X (formerly Twitter) asked the Nigerian government to immediately and unconditionally release Chioma, stressing that Chioma's arrest showed that the authorities are paying lip-service to police reforms, hence, impunity for unlawful arrests remains rampant.

Amnesty said, "The Nigerian authorities must immediately and unconditionally release Chioma Egodi, allegedly arrested by the Nigeria Police Force @PoliceNG on the order of Erisco Food, over an online review of its product.

"No one should ever be arrested simply for exercising their freedom of expression. The arrest of Chioma Egodi shows that, despite the authorities paying lip-service to police reforms, impunity for unlawful arrests remains rampant."
