Chief Enibe Francis, the Chairman of Mgbuka Amazu Market, Onitsha, Anambra State, has been reportedly kidnapped by unknown gunmen.

The circumstances around his kidnap are said to be related to Monday’s sit-at-home in the area.

It was learnt that the incident happened on Monday shortly after the chairman had opened the market as directed by the market associations in the state.

It was gathered that the armed hoodlums beat him to a stupor after which they bundled him into a waiting vehicle and drove to an unknown destination.

During the Workers' Day celebration in May, Governor Soludo had bemoaned the deliberate absence of civil servants from duty under the guise of sit-at-home and threatened to slash the salaries of any government workers who did not show up at work today.

Prof. Chukwuma Soludo had also directed market leaders in the state to open their markets on Mondays by observing prayer sessions and cleaning of the markets and drainages.
