October 5, 2023

It had been reported that Olorunfemi was pushed down from a moving vehicle along the Kubwa Expressway after she was robbed by robbers on September 26.

The Nigerian Senate has summoned the acting Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to appear on issues concerning the death of Greatness Olorunfemi, a woman who was victim of a “one-chance” robbery.

It had been reported that Olorunfemi was pushed down from a moving vehicle along the Kubwa Expressway after she was robbed by robbers on September 26.

She was reportedly transferred to the Maitama General Hospital, where the nurses on duty allegedly sought a police report before treating her.

The FCT's health authorities had meanwhile claimed that the victim was brought in already dead. The FCT minister has already formed a panel to investigate the victim's death.

The invitation to the IGP and Wike was made in response to a resolution filed by Asuquo Ekpenyong, senator representing Akwa Ibom South, on Thursday.

While moving the motion, Ekpenyong said the IGP and the FCT minister should explain why the woman was not attended to.

The senator said the Gunshot Wounds Act should be amended to provide stiffer penalties for those who do not attend to gunshot victims. “No gunshot victim shall be refused immediate and adequate treatment whether or not an initial monetary deposit has been paid.”

The motion was adopted after it was put to vote by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
