AI said that the Nigerian authorities had no plan to end abductions of school students in the region.
Global human rights body, Amnesty International, has faulted the President Bola Tinubu-led Nigerian government’s approach in tackling the current incessant abduction of school students in the Northern region of Nigeria.
Recall that at least four students of the Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK) were kidnapped by some suspected terrorists at Angwan Kare around 10:30pm on Monday.
Reacting to the abduction of the students and series of other students abductions that have occurred in several universities in Northern Nigeria, AI said that the Nigerian authorities had no plan to end abductions of school students in the region.
Amnesty in a short statement on its X (formerly Twitter) said that schools should be places of safety and no person should have to choose between their education and their life, but that the authorities appear to have learned nothing from the series of school abductions that took place across the Northern part of Nigeria.
The statement read, “The Nigerian authorities must urgently tame the tide of abduction of students, as gunmen abducted 4 female students of the Nasarawa State University Keffi.
“Schools should be places of safety, and no person should have to choose between their education and their life.
“The authorities appear to have learned nothing from the series of school abductions that took place across the Northern part of Nigeria.
“The latest abduction clearly shows, there appears to be no framework in place to prevent further school abductions.”
