A source privy to the situation explained that the affected candidates were mostly students who used awaiting results while obtaining their JAMB Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) forms earlier this year. However, despite uploading their results as instructed by the UNILAG management within the stipulated time, all of them were denied admission by the university because the results they uploaded on the JAMB portal could not be obtained by the university during the process of admission.

No fewer than 2,000 applicants were denied admission by the University of Lagos management due to the failure of the Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB) to upload their West African Senior School Certificate Examination results on their Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) profile, SaharaReporters has gathered.

According to the source, the UNILAG management decided to punish the candidates for JAMB’s failure by denying them admission.

The source said, “These sets of applicants applied to UNILAG with WAEC awaiting results which is normal given that they will be availed the window to subsequently upload the Results once it's released by WAEC.

“This was done by the applicants within the stipulated time UNILAG requested that it should be uploaded on JAMB’s CAPS for the purpose of determining the cut-off marks and the admission process respectively

“Ironically applicant numbering up to 2,000 were not given admission and the excuse given by UNILAG admission office is that the affected applicants' WAEC results were not on JAMB’s CAPS during the time they were retrieving the WAEC results from JAMB’s CAPS.

“It will interest you to know that the WAEC results UNILAG claimed were not on the CAPS are right there on the CAPS of the affected students.”

“JAMB’s ineffective software to sustain uploaded data and UNILAG’s lack of compassion to engage JAMB with an attempt to sort out the problem will shatter the dreams of these innocent students,” the source added.

All efforts to get the reaction of the university management to react to the issue were unsuccessful.
