The new ministers were administered oaths at the beginning of this week’s Federal Executive Council meeting, which is the second one to be held by Tinubu’s administration.

Nigerian President, Bola Tinubu on Monday swore in the three new ministers whose nominations were recently confirmed by the Senate.

The new ministers were administered oaths at the beginning of this week’s Federal Executive Council meeting, which is the second one to be held by Tinubu’s administration.

The administration had only held one Federal Executive Council meeting since Tinubu’s inauguration as President on May 29, 2023.

The maiden meeting was held at the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa in Abuja on August 28.

SaharaReporters reported last week that it was not clear how the 48 ministers appointed by Tinubu had been giving briefings and taking directives from the President in the absence of weekly FEC meetings.

Meanwhile, according to Section 148 (2) of the 1999 Constitution, The President shall hold regular meetings with the Vice-President and all the Ministers of the Government of the Federation for the purposes of - (a) determining the general direction of domestic and foreign policies of the Government of the Federation; (b) co-ordinating the activities of the President, the Vice-President and the Ministers of the Government of the Federation in the discharge of their executive responsibilities; and (c) advising the President generally in discharge of his executive functions other than those functions with respect to which he is required by this Constitution to seek the advice or act on the recommendation of any other person or body.

The newly sworn-in ministers are Balarabe Lawal from Kaduna State, Jamila Ibrahim Bio from Kwara State and Ayodele Olawande from Ondo State, who will work as the Minister of Environment, Minister of Youth and Minister of State for Youth respectively.

This brings the number of ministers in President Tinubu’s cabinet to 48
