According to the police boss, Abdullahi was among the 222 ‘repentant influential youths’ who denounced violence and chose to become good ambassadors of the state.

The Kano State Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Gumel has explained why an alleged criminal, Nasiru Abdullahi, popularly known as Chile Maidoki was enlisted as a police constabulary.

According to the police boss, Abdullahi was among the 222 ‘repentant influential youths’ who denounced violence and chose to become good ambassadors of the state.

He said following instructions from the state government, the youths were de-radicalized and properly profiled, during which about 50 of them volunteered to help the police in the ongoing fight against criminal elements in the state.

He added that following the directive of the state governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, the repentant influential youths who were hitherto idle and tools in the hands of disgruntled politicians and other enemies of the state who used them to foment trouble were properly profiled and reformed.

He further stated that out of the 222 influential youths, 50 volunteered to help the police in fighting crime and criminal activities of which Abdullahi is among them.

“All the 222 influential youths who surrendered themselves were properly profiled.

“The state Governor, His Excellency, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf who already gave them amnesty directed us to profile them and find out where they can fit in for skills acquisition and human empowerment.

“Out of the 222 influential youths, 50 of them volunteered to help the police in fighting crime and criminal activities in the state. Nasiru Abdullahi is one of them,” he said.

SaharaReporters had exclusively reported how Abdullahi was recruited as a police constabulary barely two months after he was declared wanted by the Kano State Commissioner with a bounty of N100,000 put on his head.

Following the report, several Nigerians on social media expressed dismay over the recruitment of individuals with criminal records and/or shady pasts to police communities.

In August, Abdullahi and two other alleged criminals were declared wanted by the police.

A subsequent statement by the Kano command confirmed that he surrendered himself upon hearing about the bounty put on his head.

Abdullahi was quoted as saying he slept “at burial ground yards in Kano city just to evade detection by security personnel”.

“One of the three notorious wanted criminals named Nasiru Abdullahi, popularly known as Chile Maidoki of Layin Falwaya Kurna Makabarta Quarters Kano has surrendered himself to the Office of the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Mohammed Usaini Gumel, upon hearing the declaration of N100,000:00 bounty for his arrest,” the statement had read.

“This brings a total of 100 documented and profiled repentant criminals that so far surrendered themselves to the police command.

“During the hide and seek regime the said repentant terror Chile Maidoki said to the police that he used to sleep at burial ground yard in Kano City just to evade detection by security personnel.

“He is now appealing to the police and the good people of the state to forgive him, that he has repented and is now ready to work with the Police to promote sustainable peace and development in the state. He is therefore not to be arrested by the Police or stigmatised by members of the public.

“The remaining two with N100,000:00 bounty on each for clues or information leading to their arrests. They are Abba Burakita of Dorayi Quarters and Hantar Daba of Kwanar Disu.

“Prospectus beneficiaries of these bounties with credible information on their whereabouts are required to contact the nearest police station.”
