No fewer than 73 suspects have been arrested for alleged kidnapping, criminal attacks, killings, cattle rustling, gunrunning, farm destruction, and possession of arms, ammunition and illicit drugs.
The suspects were arrested by troops of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) on Operation Hakorin Damisa IV in an operation carried out between October 16 and October 22.
The troops also arrested four suspects - Mr Philip Kwam, Juak Anyuwu, Daniel Benjamin and Ezekiel Samuel - for allegedly harbouring criminals and being in possession of illicit drugs following a raid on their hideout.
According to a statement issued by the Nigerian Army Headquarters on Monday, the troops on October 18 arrested 16 suspects in connection with the murder of two women, Victoria Wetsan and Nagung Sale, while working on farmland at Binkwaghas village.
The village is in the Panyam District of Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.
On October 19, troops arrested two suspects, Mohammed Yusuf and Aliyu Adamu in connection with the isolated killing of one Yahaya Adamu in Kibul forest in the Riyom Local Government Area of the state.
The troops also arrested four suspects, Anass Abdullahi, Abdulmalik Abdullahi, Aliyu and Nuhu Mohammed for attacking Mr Irimiya Nuhu and Arron Anthony in the Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of the state.
Also, on Saturday, October 21, troops of Sector 6 arrested one Yusuf Idris at Polewire General Area in the Riyom Local Government Area for alleged attempted murder.
The operation was carried out in conjunction with the Vigilante Group of Nigeria.
The troops also arrested one Bukam Daniel, in connection with theft at Gol village in the Bokkos Local Government Area.
The army also said that following credible information, troops laid an ambush for suspected bandits in Bura village, Ningi Local Government Area of Bauchi State, killed one bandit and recovered one AK-47 rifle.
Four suspected kidnappers, Mallam Sale, Dibbo Abubakar, Umaru Abdullahi and Jabbo Adamu, were also arrested at Yamini and Kuka villages in the Shendam Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The statement noted that a preliminary investigation linked the suspects with the recent kidnapping of one Alhaji Abubakar Abdullahi.
Furthermore, troops reportedly conducted a sting operation at Yelwa Bomb village in Jos North, Plateau State and arrested suspected kidnappers identified as Abdullahi Yahuza, Dante Chuwang, Abdullahi Haruna, Haruna Dauda, Nura Abubakar, Mohammed Abdusalam, Adam Aliyu and Mahmoud Labiru, "who have been terrorizing Jos North and Barkin Ladi LGAs of Plateau State."
The statement further stated that investigations led to the recovery of a Toyota Picnic vehicle with registration number KTU 48 GU used for their operations and an AK-47 rifle concealed in a bush.
Troops also reportedly raided hideouts of suspected kidnappers at Horop, Kawel, Mushere villages and Moonshine Hotel in the Bokkos Local Government Area and arrested 21 suspects who were taken into custody for investigation.
A notorious kidnapper, Mallam Mamman, who was on the wanted list of security agencies was said to have abandoned his Ford Galaxy vehicle with registration number PKN-693XA during a stop-and-search operation at Bisichi checkpoint, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area and escaped.
"Efforts ongoing to apprehend the suspect for prosecution," the statement said.
Troops also arrested three suspects for car theft along the Bauchi-Jos expressway and handed them over to the Nigerian Police for prosecution.
Similarly, one Abdullahi Ibrahim was arrested for motorcycle theft at Gidan Waya in the Jema’a Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
