Many Nigerians have criticised the Senate and House of Representatives for choosing to spend billions of naira on vehicles at a time when the country is highly indebted and facing an economic crisis.

The Nigerian Senate has said it decided to buy SUVs worth N160 million for its members amid hardship in the country because the brand is durable.

Many Nigerians have criticised the Senate and House of Representatives for choosing to spend billions of naira on vehicles at a time when the country is highly indebted and facing an economic crisis.

However, while briefing journalists on Tuesday in Abuja, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Services, Sunday Karimi, they need durable roads because the roads are bad.

Karimi said that “a minister has more than three Land Cruisers, Prado and other vehicles and you are not asking them questions.”

“Why us?” he asked.

“These vehicles that you see, go to Nigeria roads today. If I go home once to my senatorial district, I come back spending a lot on my vehicles because our roads are bad,” he said.

He said they chose the Toyota Land Cruiser because of its cost and durability.
