The Enugu State Command of the Nigerian Police Force on Sunday announced that it has arrested a member of a child trafficking gang.

Ndukwe said that the suspect identified as Ifeanyi Omeke, 21, was arrested by its personnel attached to Igbo-Eze North Police Division in collaboration with the state Neighborhood Watch Group on Friday, October 27, 2023, at Igogoro village in Enugu-Ezike community of Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area.
He said the arrest was done at about 1.30 p.m.
According to the statement, the suspect was nabbed after he allegedly sneaked into the complainant's house in the community and attempted to steal a one-year-old girl.
"The suspect confessed to the crime, stating that he was contracted by his cohorts at large to steal children for ritual and other criminal purposes," Ndukwe said.
Meanwhile, the police spokesman said the police commissioner, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, had ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for a thorough investigation that will lead to the arrest of other members of the criminal syndicate and their prosecution.
