Speaking to SaharaReporters, they asked the state and Nigerian governments to rescue them from the wicked acts of the gunmen suspected to be herdsmen who have been terrorising them in the community.
Farmers in Suktu community in the Song Local Government Area of Adamawa State have cried out over the continued occupation and destruction of their farmland and crops by suspected Fulani herdsmen armed with AK-47 rifles.
Speaking to SaharaReporters, they asked the state and Nigerian governments to rescue them from the wicked acts of the gunmen suspected to be herdsmen who have been terrorising them in the community.
According to the farmers, since August 19, 2023, the herdsmen have continued to occupy their farmland and destroy their crops.
The herders reportedly invaded the village again recently and destroyed many hectares of farmland.
“Fulani herdsmen have been invading our farmland for months now. They are always armed with guns and different weapons. They were back again. They chased us away and then allowed cows to graze on the crops,” one of the affected farmers said.
“The matter was reported to the Emir of Suktu in Song Local Government Area but unfortunately we didn’t get any justice. The Emir only sent his delegation to come and witness the destruction of our farm.”
He pleaded with the government to come to their rescue.
According to him, farming is the only source of livelihood for the people of the community.
Another farmer added that the herders had been acting with so much impunity and scaring the people with their guns and other weapons.
“Since August 19, 2023, the herdsmen have been occupying our farmland, harassing and maiming the farmers. They have been feeding their cattle with our crops.
“There is food scarcity in Nigeria because these herders are intentional in their attempt at impoverishing the people, many crops due for harvest have been destroyed by the herders who always attack us,” he said.
