SaharaReporters learnt that the hoodlums who attacked the house at about 6 a.m. on Tuesday also took away the corpse of the policeman, identified as Atabor and the other victims, who were security guards believed to be on duty.

The Nigerian Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun has ordered the immediate release of all the people arrested by the police at the Director-General of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) Campaign Council, Sheik Ibrahim Jibrin’s house in Anyigba, Kogi State.

SaharaReporters earlier reported that some political thugs suspected to be working for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state attacked Sheik Jibrin’s house and killed a policeman and four other persons.

SaharaReporters learnt that the hoodlums who attacked the house at about 6 a.m. on Tuesday also took away the corpse of the policeman, identified as Atabor and the other victims, who were security guards believed to be on duty.

According to a release by Faruk Adejoh-Audu, the spokesman, Muri/Sam Gubernatorial Campaign of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), the hoodlums were a “rogue force” allegedly put together by Governor Yahaya Bello ahead of the Saturday governorship election in the state.

According to him, as a result of this, the operatives of the police force stormed the house and arrested some random people who were not in any way related to the hoodlums who launched the attack.

However, SaharaReporters on Thursday learnt that the police chief, Egbetokun had asked all those arrested to be released and charged the state police commissioner, Bethrand Onuoha to fish out the officers who carried out the illegal arrest.

“CP Kogi Betrand Onuah is in trouble as the IGP is currently in Lokoja investigating the matter and asked all those arrested from the house to be released immediately and that the commissioner should provide all those involved in that illegal operation,” a source privy to the incident told SaharaReporters.

“The IGP said the suspects (police officers who invaded the house) should be fished out for interrogation,” the source added.

SaharaReporters further learnt that Bethrand Onuoha may be removed as the state commissioner of police barely two days before the governorship election in the state.

“There are speculations that the Kogi police commissioner will be changed but it is not official yet,” a source revealed.
