The Nigerian Senate has appointed Senator Abba Moro representing Benue South Senatorial District on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the Senate Minority Leader.

Senator Moro was appointed to replace Senator Simon Mwadkon of the same PDP who represented Plateau North Senatorial District before he was sacked by the Court of Appeal.

The Senate also appointed Senator Osita Ngwu representing Enugu West Senatorial District on the platform of the PDP as Senate Minority Whip.

Senator Ngwu was also appointed to replace Senator Darlington Nwokocha who represented Abia Central Senatorial District on the platform of the Labour Party before he was also sacked by the Court of Appeal.

The Court of Appeal had sacked Senator Nwokocha and declared Austin Akobundu of the Peoples Democratic Party winner of the February 25 National Assembly poll.

Also, a three-member panel of Court of Appeal presided over by Justice Daudu Williams, had held that Senator Mwadkwon was not validly nominated by the PDP for the election because 12 local government areas in the state did not participate in the congress that elected him as candidate of the party for the election.

The court subsequently ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a rerun for the Plateau North Senatorial seat within 90 days.
