The TIB stated that Ms. Tinuade made a complaint of the assault at the Oríta Police Station, Ibadan and the suspect was arrested.

Pro-democracy and human rights advocacy group, the Take-It-Back Movement (TIB), has accused the police authorities at the Orita Police Station, Oyo State Command of compromising a sexual and physical assault case reported to it.

The TIB in a statement on Tuesday by its Coordinator, Sexual and Gender Based Violence Unit, Omolola Pedro, stated that the case is brought by a woman, Tinuade Mary, who was sexually and physically assaulted by her neighbour, one Akeem Sanni, in Ibadan.

The TIB stated that Ms. Tinuade made a complaint of the assault at the Oríta Police Station, Ibadan and the suspect was arrested.

But TIB said that “It is rather sad that the police who are supposed to uphold the law and defend human rights are the ones trying to jeopardise the case and frustrate justice, and it seems as though the police have a special interest in the case rather than getting justice for the victim.”

The movement added that “We have evidence of their various attempts to intimidate the complainant,” and therefore demanded that “The Nigeria Police should call their officers at Oríta Police Station to order, and let justice prevail.”
