The governor cautioned that inter-agency rivalry among security operatives could jeopardize the peace building efforts in the state government.

The Adamawa State governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, has expressed deep concerns over the attack launched by the Nigerian Army personnel on the state police headquarters on Tuesday night.

The governor cautioned that inter-agency rivalry among security operatives could jeopardize the peace building efforts in the state government.

Fintiri also called for calm as the violent clash had put residents of Yola, the state capital in panic mode.

In a statement by his spokesperson, Humwashi Wonosikou, Governor Fintiri said “I am concerned that such acrimony could have lasting consequences on the hard earned peace we have been able to build over the years.

“I appeal to all security personnel for restraint, mutual respect and tolerance for one another as people destined to work together in this great state. I appeal for patience and understanding as the administration works towards lasting solutions to these conflicts.”

He further appealed for accommodation and tolerance among security agencies describing the incident as unacceptable at this time of peace building.

While regretting the ugly incident that led to the clash between the soldiers and the police, Governor Fintiri appealed to the parties to exercise restraint in the overall peace of the state.

SaharaReporters earlier reported that the Brigade Commander of 23 Brigade, Yola, Adamawa State, Brig Gen Gambo Mohammed, reacted to claims by the Nigerian police that the military personnel attacked the police command headquarters in the state.

SaharaReporters earlier reported that the Nigerian police confirmed the attack on its headquarters in

Adamawa State by the personnel of the Nigerian Army.

The police had also noted that an Inspector, Jacob Daniel, was killed in the brutal attack on its headquarters.

The spokesperson for the police in Adamawa State, SP Suleiman Nguroje, had told SaharaReporters on Wednesday morning that the clash between the police and the military officers started at Target Junction, in Yola, the state capital.

However, the Brigade Commander told SaharaReporters on Wednesday that the troops went to rescue a soldier who sustained gunshot wounds.

He said, "The police shot at our soldiers at a checkpoint and a soldier was injured; they (police) hid him.

"Since we can't find him, our soldiers went to rescue the person they shot. They (police) fired at those ones too. So they had to open fire. But about now, everything is calm and normal.”
