The Labour Party (LP) in Imo State, on Thursday, staged a protest at the national headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abuja, over the outcome of the November 11 poll.
The angry protesters led by the party’s governorship candidate, Athan Achonu, were armed with placards with different inscriptions, demanding the Certified True Copies of the election results the commission conducted in Imo State.
They alleged that the results announced by the commission are different from what INEC has on its server.
The Independent National Electoral Commission had declared Governor Hope Uzodimma of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of governorship election in Imo State.
The State Returning Officer for the election, Prof Abayomi Fasina, who is the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Oye-Ekiti, Ekiti state, declared Uzodimma the winner of the election.
The governor got 540,308 votes followed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Samuel Anyanwu, who came a distant second with 71,503 votes.
The Labour Party candidate, Athan Achonu, came third with a total of 64,081 votes.
The collation of results started around 2am on Sunday in Owerri, the state capital.
Eighteen parties fielded candidates in the election but Governor Uzodimma of the All Progressives Congress won in all 27 local government areas in the state, as announced by INEC.
