The Court of Appeal sitting in Lagos State on Friday in a 2 to 1 judgment affirmed Dapo Abiodun as the duly elected governor of Ogun State in the March 18 governorship poll.

The Court in the majority judgment delivered by Justice Joseph Ikyegh dismissed the appeal by candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Ladi Adebutu, in the state governorship poll.

Adebutu who was the PDP flag bearer in the 2023 general elections had earlier approached the tribunal to challenge the victory of Abiodun in the March 18 governorship election.

He had alleged that the election that brought in Abiodun did not comply with the provisions of the Electoral Act, claiming that the election was marred with irregularities and corrupt practices.

He had added that over 40,000 voters were disenfranchised due to violence.

He asked the court to nullify the election and declare him winner.

The tribunal had upheld the election of the governor.

Adebutu had described the judgement of Justice Hamidu Kunaza three man-led Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal which dismissed his petition as disheartening and a threat to the country’s fledgling democracy.
