Court Of Appeal Set To Deliver Judgment On Adebutu’s Petition Against Ogun Governor, Abiodun

The Court of Appeal in Lagos State is set to deliver judgement on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Ladi Adebutu’s petition against Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State.

This is said to have caused palpable tension among members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and those of the opposition PDP in the state.

Adebutu who was the PDP flag bearer in the 2023 general elections had earlier approached the tribunal to challenge the victory of Abiodun in the March 18 governorship election.

He had alleged that the election that the victory Abiodun did not comply with the provisions of the Electoral Act, claiming that the election was marred with irregularities and corrupt practices.

He had added that over 40,000 voters were disenfranchised due to violence.

He asked the court to nullify the election and declare him winner.

The tribunal had upheld the election of the governor.

Adebutu had described the judgement of Justice Hamidu Kunaza three man-led Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal which dismissed his petition as disheartening and a threat to the country’s fledgling democracy.

The sitting has started at the Court of Appeal sitting in Igbosere, Lagos today.
