The protesters expressed their disappointment over the court rulings on election matters nationwide, particularly in Kano, which had generated a lot of controversies.

A women group stormed the streets of Kano State on Sunday to protest against the Court Of Appeal judgement which sacked the Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf.

The protesters expressed their disappointment over the court rulings on election matters nationwide, particularly in Kano, which had generated a lot of controversies.

The group alleged that the body language of the court showed that the justices allegedly wanted to deliberately manipulate the law in the interest of the ruling party, All Progressives Congress (APC).

The women carrying placards chanted support songs for the state governor, Abba Yusuf, as they approached the state police command and submitted a letter containing their grievances in the aftermath of the Court of Appeal judgement.

One of the peaceful protesters, Hajiya Rabi Hotoro, was quoted saying: “We are out today because we believe and democracy and the independence of the judiciary, we want call on the relevant stakeholders to do the needful and allow the will of Kano people to prevail.”

SaharaReporters had on Saturday reported that there was heavy presence of security operatives across the metropolis of Kano State as the police stopped the planned rally and protest by the supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in the state.

The two political parties and their supporters meanwhile shelved their protests as no one was sighted on the streets for the protest on Saturday.

It was earlier reported that the stakeholders of the APC and those of the NNPP had set Saturday for a mega rally and protest respectively following the judgement of the Appeal Court which sacked Governor Abba Yusuf and declared the candidate of the APC, Nasir Gawuna as the winner of the March 18 election in the state.

The Director-General of the Gawuna/Garo Campaign Organisation, Rabiu Suleiman Bichi, who led other stakeholders consisting of members of the Kano State House of Assembly, former commissioners, ex-special advisers and other stalwarts of the APC in the state said while the NNPP would be staging a mass protest in Kano on Saturday, the APC would organise a mass rally same day.

The leadership of the NNPP in the State had earlier denied plans for any protest, according to the State Chairman, Hashim Sulaiman Dungurawa, but some groups of supporters stood by it.

The Police Command in Kano had also warned against any attempt by any person or group of persons to stage any public procession, protest, as well as a rally. Moreso, the police advised all parties to sheath their swords.

It was observed that while there were security operatives stationed around strategic locations in the state, especially the metropolis, others are roving around major streets.
