Nigerian Police Order Probe Of Officers Involved In Acts Of Brutality In Nsukka Town, Enugu

Meanwhile, the Commissioner, according to the statement has called for calm while the investigation is concluded.

The Enugu State Commissioner of Police, Kanayo Uzuegbu, has condemned the act of brutality and unprofessional conduct by some policemen in the Nsukka area of the state.

 

Uzuegbu, in a statement issued through the command’s spokesman, Daniel Ndukwe, said that the police found social media reports alleging the unprofessional conduct of some police officers in Nsukka town which he said was unacceptable to the command.

He thereafter ordered the Deputy Commissioner in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department to investigate and ensure that appropriate disciplinary sanctions are meted against any of the police officers found wanting.

 

Meanwhile, the Commissioner, according to the statement has called for calm while the investigation is concluded.

 

"He entreats those affected by the said acts of police misconduct to come forward and volunteer evidence that will aid the timely conclusion of the investigation and further police disciplinary actions."

 

The CP, however, reaffirmed his unwavering stance against police unethical conduct and reassured the maximum protection of the rights of citizens in accordance with existing laws.
