The group, the All Progressives Congress Northern Progressives for Asiwaju, on Tuesday faulted the appointment of Umar Ajiya saying it would be counterproductive for the party and for the country.

President Bola Tinubu appointed Alhaji Umar Isa Ajiya, who sponsored the campaign of Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the Chief Financial Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) a northern group has alleged.

The group, the All Progressives Congress Northern Progressives for Asiwaju, on Tuesday faulted the appointment of Umar Ajiya saying it would be counterproductive for the party and for the country.

SaharaReporters had on Monday reported that Tinubu reappointed Mele Kyari as the Group Chief Executive Officer of the NNPCL and also announced a new board, according to a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on media and publicity, Ajuri Ngelale.

According to Ngelale, the appointment takes effect from Friday, December 1, 2023.

He had said the president also appointed the management team of the corporation, with Chief Pius Akinyelure as Non-Executive Board Chairman.

Other members are; Mallam Mele Kolo Kyari — Group Chief Executive Officer, Alhaji Umar Isa Ajiya — Chief Financial Officer, Mr. Ledum Mitee — Non-Executive Director, Mr. Musa Tumsa — Non-Executive Director, Mr. Ghali Muhammad — Non-Executive Director, Prof. Mustapha Aliyu — Non-Executive Director, Mr. David Ogbodo — Non-Executive Director and Ms. Eunice Thomas — Non-Executive Director.”

Speaking in a statement by the group Director General, Muhammad Hussein on Tuesday, the northern APC group said the President must wake to reality happening.

The group alleged that Ajiya’s appointment was dangerous to the All Progressives Congress because of Ajiya’s involvement “in the sponsoring of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

“We described this as despicable and a threat to many loyalist of our party who worked hard for the success of the 2023 presidential election. We expect Asiwaju to reward loyalty and people who worked tirelessly for him and not those who stole the nation’s money to sponsor people against him,” the group said.
