Nigerian Policemen Attack Federal University, Lafia Students Protesting Invasion Of Hostels By Bandits

The incident, coupled with previous several terrorist attacks on the students in Gandu community, led to a massive protest by the angry students who stormed the major roads leading to the university.

 

Some operatives of the Nigerian Police Force on Thursday afternoon attacked students of the Federal University of Lafia, Nasarawa State while they were protesting against the massive abduction of their mates by a group of terrorists, locally dubbed as bandits.

 

SaharaReporters gathered that the terrorists invaded a private hostel of the students, named Confidence Lodge at Gandu community and kidnapped some students living in the lodge.

 

The incident, coupled with previous several terrorist attacks on the students in Gandu community, led to a massive protest by the angry students who stormed the major roads leading to the university.

 

In a video obtained by SaharaReporters, the students were seen carrying different placards, chanting “We no go gree ooo, We no go gree ooo.”

 

A source among the students who spoke exclusively to SaharaReporters on Thursday afternoon confirmed that operatives of the Nigerian Police Force attacked the protesting students.

 

“The police that could not defend us against the terrorists were the ones stopping us from the protest. They attacked us during the protest,” one of the students said.

 

Meanwhile, SaharaReporters earlier reported how students had been living in fear due to regular kidnappers and bandits’ attacks on the community.

 

SaharaReporters also reported that terrorists last Monday evening attacked the community and kidnapped some residents.

 

A source in the community had confirmed this to SaharaReporters on Tuesday morning, adding that several others also sustained injuries during the bandits’ attack that occurred around 7 pm last Monday.

 

Those who sustained injuries have been rushed to a nearby facility for immediate medical attention.

 

In a video made available to SaharaReporters, one of the victims of the attack was seen lying on a bed at the hospital subconsciously and it was yet to be ascertained if he was a student or an indigene of the community.

 

 

On Wednesday, it was learnt that the attackers killed a mechanic and kidnapped his wife and daughters during the invasion.

 

When contacted for comment, the State Police PPRO, Rahman Nansel did not pick up his call and did not respond to a text message sent to him seeking his comment on the incident.
