Sowore had booked the hall in question for a town hall meeting in Akure, the Ondo State capital, on Saturday, December 16 to call on Governor Rotimi Akeredolu to return to office or resign.

The #RevolutionNow convener, Omoyele Sowore, says he has instructed his lawyers to file a suit against the Deji of Akure Palace and the Department of State Services (DSS) over their attempt to cancel his booking of Akure Town Hall for an event on Saturday.

Sowore had booked the hall in question for a town hall meeting in Akure, the Ondo State capital, on Saturday, December 16 to call on Governor Rotimi Akeredolu to return to office or resign.

However, the candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) in the 2019 and 2023 presidential elections on Monday vowed that there was no going back on the planned event.

On Monday evening, the activist disclosed that the Palace of Deji of Akure had sent him a letter cancelling the booking earlier made to use the Akure Hall for a town hall meeting to demand the resignation of ailing Governor Akeredolu.

Sowore earlier revealed that Nigeria's secret police, DSS, had threatened the Deji of Akure kingdom, Oba Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade Aladelusi, Odundun II, not to release the hall for the event.

According to Sowore, the DSS asked the monarch not to return the deposit he had made.

Sowore later revealed that he made N100,000 deposit on Sunday.

SaharaReporters reported on Sunday that a pro-democracy organisation, Take-It-Back Movement will organise a town hall meeting in Akure on Saturday, December 16 to call on Governor Akeredolu to resume office or resign.

On Monday evening, Sowore, a rights activist and convener of #RevolutionNow, in a post shared on his X (formerly Twitter) handle, said that the Palace sent him a letter informing him of the cancellation of the booking.

Sowore, who vowed that the meeting which would mark the beginning of street protests in Akure, the state capital and across the state on December 16, to demand Akeredolu's resignation would still hold as planned, said the Palace claimed he was deceitful in his booking of the hall.

He further revealed that he had instructed his lawyers to sue the palace and the DSS.

He wrote, “I received a letter from the Palace of Deji of Akure in Ondo State this evening cancelling my booking of the Akure Hall for our proposed Townhall meeting on #AkeredoluMustResign protest scheduled for December 16th 2023.

“In it, the Palace claimed I was "deceitful "in my booking request for the venue, let me state clearly that this is slanderous and dishonest, I made it clear that my request was for a townhall meeting to discuss Gov. Rotimi Akeredolu absence from work and the state of governance in Ondo state.

“I was asked to deposit N100k which I did yesterday and early this morning the palace gave me another contact to discuss possible discounts considering that we were booking the hall for public good.

“I later received a call from the palace that the @OfficialDSSNG 'invaded" the palace and asked the monarch to refund my money immediately.

“I have instructed our lawyers to file a lawsuit against the palace and the DSS immediately, meanwhile the townhall meeting will be held at Akure Hall on Saturday December 16th 2023 as scheduled. NO GOING BACK!”
