Two Die In Sokoto Deputy Governor's Convoy Accident, Police Confirm Tragedy

The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the death of two persons in an accident involving the convoy of Sokoto State Deputy Governor, Idris Mohammed Gobir on Wednesday evening.

 

SaharaReporters that the incident occurred when the state governor, Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, alongside the Deputy Governor, Idris Mohammed Gobir, led other party members to Sabon Birni on official duty.

 

However, confirming the incident, the spokesman for the Sokoto State Police Command, Ahmed Rufa’i, told journalists in an interview that the accident involved a pilot vehicle in the deputy governor’s convoy.

 

Rufa’i said that two persons who died in the accident were a police officer and a photographer.

 

He said, “The incident involved a pilot vehicle in the convoy of the deputy governor and the driver of the vehicle who is a police officer was confirmed dead together with a photographer in the convoy.

 

“The injured persons are already receiving treatment at the Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital here in Sokoto.

 

“The incident happened on their way back from Sabon Birni Local Government Area to Sokoto.”

 

Meanwhile, according to The PUNCH, the photographer was identified as Buhari Tanko, believed to be a member of the entourage of the deputy governor.

 

The newspaper quoted a source to have said that Buhari Tanko died on the spot.

 

“I just confirmed that the vehicle involved in the accident was a police vehicle. The photographer was together with them in the vehicle when the incident happened.

 

“I learnt that two persons, a police officer, whom I cannot easily confirm his name, and the photographer, Buhari Tanko, died on the spot. It is very sad and unfortunate. May their soul rest in peace,” a source was quoted as saying.
