#NajeebahAndHerSisters: Atiku, Saraki Condemn Killing Of Naheeba By Kidnappers, Lament Insecurity In Nigeria
January 14, 2024

The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 presidential election, Atiku Abubakar and former Senate President, Abubakar Bukola Saraki, have condemned the killing of Nabeeha Al-Kadriyar, a female student killed by kidnappers.

Nabeeha, who was kidnapped along with her five sisters and father on January 2 in their residence in the Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), was killed by her abductors on Saturday.

Nabeeha’s killing has sparked outrage in the country as Nigerians on social media have lamented the escalating insecurity in the country.

Reacting to the killing of the young lady, Atiku, a former Vice President of Nigeria in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday said that Nabeeha’s killing is a reminder that kidnappers and bandits are operating unhindered in Nigeria.

According to Atiku, the security architecture needs to be rejigged.

He wrote, “I am saddened by reports of the brutal murder of Nabeeha Al-Kadriyar, who was abducted with her siblings and has been in the custody of their abductors for almost two weeks.

“This is yet another reminder that kidnappers and bandits are operating unhindered in our country. The security architecture needs to be rejigged to the extent that it stems the free rein of criminal elements and guarantees the safety of lives and property.

“The security agencies should step up action to rescue the rest who are still in the custody of the kidnappers. I pray Allah to grant the deceased eternal rest and comfort the family.”

Also reacting to the incident, the former President of the Senate, Saraki who described Nabeeha’s death as unconscionable, said she died due to extortion and greed, stressing that no family should ever have to face an impossible choice of either pay a ransom that cripples their lives or face the unthinkable consequences.

He wrote on X, “It is unconscionable that Nabeeha's life was lost due to extortion and greed. No family should ever have to face such an impossible choice—to pay a ransom that cripples their lives or face the unthinkable consequences.

“I strongly condemn the kidnappers responsible for this tragedy and the ongoing captivity of the remaining five Al-Kadriyar children. Their actions are cruel and barbaric, inflicting unspeakable suffering on innocent victims and tearing families apart.

“I urge the authorities to work tirelessly to ensure the safe and swift return of the remaining children. Every effort must be made to bring these perpetrators to justice.

“Our security agencies must be empowered with the resources and training necessary to effectively combat these criminal elements. Intelligence gathering, proactive intervention, and seamless inter-agency collaboration are crucial to dismantling these networks of terror.

“May Almighty Allah (SWT) forgive Nabeeha's sins and grant her a place in Al Jannah Firdaus. May He protect the remaining children and grant the Al-Kadriyar family strength and solace during this unimaginable ordeal.”
