A final year student of the Bayero University, Kano (BUK), Talatu Salihu, has been killed by terrorists who kidnapped her together with her siblings at their place of residence in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital city.
SaharaReporters gathered that Talatu was a student of Library and Information Science and she was killed after her family could not pay the demanded ransom to the terrorists.
Talatu’s death was confirmed to SaharaReporters on Wednesday by her close friends in school.
“She was kidnapped together with two of her siblings in Abuja and the kidnappers demanded over N100million for their ransom which their parents could not afford.
“They killed her because her family was not able to meet up with the payment of the ransom,” Talatu’s friend told SaharaReporters.
She claimed that the terrorists were still keeping Talatu's brothers and threatening to kill them if the parents did not pay the demanded ransom.
Recently, SaharaReporters had reported several cases of kidnapping and abductions in Abuja which had raised fear among the dwellers.
For instance, an intelligence report from the Nigeria Police Force revealed that operatives intercepted a phone call between kidnappers in Karu, a community near Abuja, and Kabusa area in the Federal Capital Territory, planning an operation on Wednesday morning.
The intelligence report sent to SaharaReporters by a military source attached to the intelligence unit, noted that the kidnapping operation was “scheduled to come in on Tuesday or January 17, 2024.”
