SaharaReporters gathered that the fire ignited when the fuel tanker was discharging fuel to the underground tank, but no motorist was affected.

Fire has razed Hanscharis Petrol Station along Enugu-Abakaliki federal road by Emene Junction in Enugu State.

The fire also razed a fuel tank with 13,000 premium motor spirit (PMS) otherwise known as fuel.

SaharaReporters gathered that the fire ignited when the fuel tanker was discharging fuel to the underground tank, but no motorist was affected.

A source told SaharaReporters that the tanker had barely discharged 2000 litres to the underground tank when the tanker caught fire.

According to the source, efforts to extinguish the fire in-house failed, lamenting that fire service also came too late that nothing was left when they eventually arrived.

"The fire started around 4:00pm but the fire service arrived at the scene around 5:23pm despite being called immediately the fire started. They also came with almost an empty tank of water. Their excuse was that they had two other locations in Abakpa and New Haven where their men had gone to fight fire.

"However, they succeeded in ensuring that the fire did not entre another property."

Efforts to speak with the State Chief Fire Officer, Mr Okwudili Ohaa were unsuccessful as his phone was engaged.

As of the time of filing this report, he had yet to respond to a text message inquiry.
